Operating Code for the
Adapted Physical Education/Physical Activity Representative

I. Name: The name of this position is the Adapted Physical Education/Physical Activity Representative for the NHAHPERD Executive Board.

II.
Purpose: The purpose of this code is to provide the Adapted Physical Education/Physical Activity Representative with an outline of the duties and responsibilities of the position of Adapted Physical Education/Physical Activity Representative.

The purpose of this position is to promote awareness of practices and programs which serve the needs of individuals with disabilities in the context of physical activities.

III.
Organization:
A. Eligibility: The Adapted Physical Education/Physical Activity Representative must be a current member of NHAHPERD.
B.
How Elected: The Adapted Physical Education/Physical Activity Representative is appointed by the President with the approval of the Executive Board. (The Adapted Physical Education/Physical Activity Representative shall be an ex-officio member of the NHAHPERD Executive Board and can, but not need be an officer of said board.)
C.
Term of Office: The Adapted Physical Education/Physical Activity Representative serves a term of three (3) years with the opportunity to serve successive terms.
D.
Vacancy: In case of a vacancy, the President will appoint a person to fill the unexpired term.
E.
Committees: Ad-hoc committees may be formed by the representative to assist in various functions. The chair and all other members of said committees must be NHAHPERD members.

IV.
Duties:
A. The Adapted Physical Education/Physical Activity Representative shall:
1. Attend meetings of the NHAHPERD Executive Board as an ex-officio member.
2. Distribute current information to NHAHPERD members through each publication of NHAHPERD News and other correspondence.
3. Plan workshops for the annual NHAHPERD Fall Conference to familiarize members with techniques that support individuals with disabilities.
4. Maintain contact with organizations that support individuals with disabilities.
5. Prepare a display of programs that support inclusion of individuals with disabilities in physical education/physical activity to be exhibited at the annual NHAHPERD Fall Conference.
6. Promote inclusion of individuals with disabilities in all NHAHPERD events through disability access and publication of that access in promotional materials.
7. Promote the inclusion of individuals with disabilities within health, physical education, recreation, and dance programs.
8. Promote the development of specific programs, if needed, to address the physical education/physical activity needs of individuals with disabilities.
